Would that be Red, White, Yellow, Blue? No, it stands for Run What You Brung - a regatta to “run” around Kent Island.

Thanks to Marty Halvorsen’s efforts, PSC had quite a nice showing in the event this year.  There were 5 charter boats and at least five more privately owned boats joining in the fun. And a fun time it was.

The boats were chartered out of Rock Hall and made the journey down to Mear’s Point Marina on Friday. That evening there was a surprise champagne toast to Doug Finke and his new bride Shelly, who traveled in from Chicago to join us for the weekend. Thanks to the generosity of Sue Goelz and others, it was a bubbly success.

After that, people went about doing what we do best....after sailing, of course...dining, drinking and dancing at various places in the area.

Up bright and early for what was supposed to be a sail around Kent Island. There were 2 categories for entrants…. one was for those wishing to just enjoy completing the circuit. The other was called a performance regatta….translated...race.

Mother Nature decided to make a statement....a very low key statement, as in almost, but not quite, as in no wind.  The powers that be eventually decided to shorten the course, although a few hardy souls like Dave Hornbach, with Manfred Weber as his first mate, did the whole trip, taking about 11 hours to complete. Corky Rittenbaugh and Deb Strain came in 7th place in the shortened version of the Performance Regatta.

Knot fatal doing what most did, motoring The five PSC boats rafted up in the Wye River, had a leisurely lunch, with the hardier souls going in for a swim, and eventually made their way back to the starting point. And some of us just enjoyed a lazy sailing day with no special place we had to be....we let the lack of wind and the current have their way with us.

That evening, all the entrants...I believe there were over 60 boats....gathered at Mear’s Point Pavilion for a RWYB Buffet....that is, eat what you brung...and what everyone else brung too! Every boat brought something, so it was one huge smorgasbord of food. That was followed by a lively dance session with the always popular Chesapeake group, Mama-Jama.

All good things come to an end, so back to Rock Hall on Sunday. But everyone agreed, it was a great weekend. Mark your calendars to join PSC next year in the 7th annual RWYB Regatta, which will be on September 17 2005.
